History

The scout movement was launched in Clevedon on November 6, 1909, and met in the YMCA building in Marson Road. A year later Sir Edmund Elton offered a site, now B&M car park, for a Clevedon and Walton Bay Scout headquarters and provided a scout hut, which was built by Coles builders. This hut was used until 1986 when the land was sold and a new scout hut was built next to the football club off Southey Road. If you’re eagle-eyed then you can still find a plaque marking the old location of the scout hut in the area.
